Volunteering opportunities and events
With the imminent lifting of COVID restrictions, we are delighted that the College will be opening up to our Alumni community once again. If you are a ‘local’ Alum, there are a number of volunteering opportunities and events coming up in College which might be of interest to you.
Read on for more information of volunteering opportunities for musicians, mentors, speakers, sports competitors and helpers, plus details of two of the College's major events TEDxGoodenoughCollege and the Alumni Homecoming Weekend.
We very much look forward to welcoming you back to the College and hope to see you there soon.
A shout out for volunteers
Join the College Orchestra for a one off concert!
Saturday 23 October, 7.30pm
The Goodensemble Members' Orchestra is looking for Alumni volunteers to take part in a concert in the Great Hall. This is a call for musicians across all instruments – strings, woodwinds, brass (including the tuba), and percussion (including the timpani). You would need to attend two rehearsals (6-9pm) and one full dress rehearsal at the College in October (dates tbc) prior to the concert itself.
The concert will form part of the Bloomsbury Festival and Goodensemble will be performing:
Stravinsky: Pulcinella Suite
Rachmaninoff: Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini (1934)
Rimsky-Korsakov: Scheherazade (1888
Be part of our first ever Powerhouse Games
Saturday 6 November 2021
We are also looking for volunteers to both take part and help the College run its first ever Powerhouse Games – a truly inclusive sports event run in partnership with the charity Power2Inspire.
Founded by College Alumnus John Wills, these events are designed to be accessible and fun for everyone, old and young, with disabilities and none, sporty and not. Teams of Members, Alumni and friends of the College will play and compete across a range of inclusive activities such as sitting volleyball, table cricket and visually impaired football.
If you are interested in taking part in this exciting event please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Share your expertise with Members
The College's Faculty Welcome Evenings will run nightly from 1-5 November 2021 between 6-9pm. We are looking for five Alumni – one per night and from each of the faculties (Arts and Humanities, Law, Economic and Business, Political and Social Sciences, Medical and Natural Sciences), to give a short inspirational, informal talk to new Members over drinks. This will be followed by dinner in the Great Hall.
We also need five Alumni (one per night) to participate in Skills Week (8-12 November 2021) by running an hour-long skills clinic for a small group of Members. This could be offering practical advice on interviewing skills or presentations or sharing career insights and guidance on specific job sectors.
If you are interested in volunteering for either of these events, please contact email@example.com including any relevant details and your availability.
Forthcoming events at the College
Saturday 7 August 2021, 2-7.30pm
Don’t miss out! This will be the 10th TEDxGoodenoughCollege event to be hosted by the College and the first major in-person event at Goodenough since opening up again.
Over this past year, events such as COVID and Brexit have combined to reshape our realities in new and surprising ways. Our job as Members of a truly global community is to discuss, critique and explore this myriad of new possibilities. The Conference will bring together speakers to reflect on the theme of 'Reshaping Realities', contemplate the new spaces, experiences, and lifestyles and allow us to think just how we might do things differently in the future.
A limited number of tickets are available to Alumni. Tickets cost £30 and will give you access to a full afternoon of talks, performances and refreshments. You can buy your tickets online here.
